Conflict migration and human rights
This course aims to provide students with a basic understanding of recent patterns of conflict and migration and the normative context enshrined in international humanitarian law and human rights which underpins the actions and limitations of the international community. It is in this framework that students will analyse how conflict and migration affect the health of displaced individuals and populations.
The topics discussed include: conflict in a global era; responding to conflict & migration; patterns of migration; human rights and international humanitarian law: a normative approach to armed conflict; complex humanitarian emergencies; health & human rights in conflict; human security & development; gender matters; refugee well-being; the future of the UN system
Assessment: one 2500 word essay (50%) plus 2-hour written exam (50%)
