Map Library

The Map/Reading Rooms have a wide variety of material to support Geography Students in their studies.

The collection is divided into two broad areas, the book collection located in the Reading Room (LG16) and the map collection located in the Oxenham Room (LG13).

The Oxenham Room has maps that cover most of the world’s area including topographic and thematic maps. We also have a wide selection of atlases and flat sheets.

The Reading Room has a collection of core ‘reference only’ texts to support the courses taught in the Geography Department as well as a number of special collections. To see what is our holdings - Link to catalogue search

The Department has developed the Oxenham Room to provide access to our on-line teaching as a digital learning resource. Students can use the twenty-four dedicated PCs to access online resources via moodle; in addition to reading lists and other information, there are exercises to help students learn and to assess their understanding of important elements of the courses they are studying.

The collection is primarily for the use of the Department of Geography and persons within University College London. Visitors from other colleges are however welcome to use the facilities. Please telephone or e-mail to make an appointment.

Wheelchair access can be arranged. Please telephone the Bedford Way Security on extension 020 7679 5513 or the Learning Resources Coordinator on 020 7679 5537.

The Map Librarian / Learning Resources Coordinator (Nick Mann) is usually available during term time (Monday – Friday), 9am – 5pm.  These times may vary during holiday / vacation time.

The map collection is located in Room LG13 (Oxenham Room) on the Lower Ground Floor at 26 Bedford Way.

Nick can be contacted on 020 7679 5537 or n.mann@ucl.ac.uk
