Victoria Medal awarded to Paul Longley

Professor Paul Longley was awarded the Royal Geographical Society’s Victoria Medal at the annual Awards Celebration on 3rd June, “for research in geographic information science”.

In following the award of the Society’s Patron’s Medal to Michael Palin, Paul illustrated his work with some examples of recent mapping applications by former PhD students, including James Cheshire on surname analysis (illustrated by the UK distribution of "Palins"), and Muhammad Adnan on the languages of Twitter in London.
