Dr Russell Hitchings is to jointly lead a project that aims to anticipate the energy demands associated with the future mobility of older people in the UK.
The project is part of a “virtual” centre of energy demand research, based at Lancaster University, involving various UK university departments working across the sectoral boundaries of mobility and building-related energy use. The centre is to be funded by £4 million from the EPSRC and EDF.
The changing travel practices of ageing societies have profound implications for resource use. Working with those at different stages in the life course, this project will produce new ways of thinking about meeting and managing the energy demands associated with older person leisure travel.
