Images of conflict

On 12th June, Dr Alan Ingram spoke as part of a series on Conflict, Commemoration, Collection and Remembering, organised by Belfast Exposed and Golden Thread Gallery.

The series accompanies two exhibitions dealing with the Iraq war: Open Shutters Iraq at Belfast Exposed (11 May - 15 June) and Loss, curated in collaboration with Imperial War Museums at Golden Thread Gallery (31 May - 28th July).

Alan discussed Open Shutters Iraq, a project by London-based photographer Eugenie Dolberg that enabled women in five cities in Iraq to create photographic accounts of their lives during wartime, and Queen and Country, a project by Turner Prize-winning artist Steve McQueen that commemorates British military losses in Iraq, which is being exhibited as part of Loss.

His talk drew on Alan’s work as a British Academy Mid-Career Fellow on Art and War: Responses to Iraq.
