Gemma Romain and Caroline Bressey have been awarded a UCL Beacon Bursary to run a Public Open Day, in conjunction with Camden Local Studies and Archives Centre, entitled London art in the age of jazz - African and Asian portraits & artists in London between the wars.

The Day will be held on 20 October 2012 at the Camden Archives as part of the Bloomsbury Festival.

The team are asking members of the public to bring in their pieces of artwork showing portraits of African and Asian people, where historical experts and curators will be on hand to offer expertise and advice.

The event will contribute to the research of the Equiano Centre’s AHRC-funded project Drawing over the Colour Line.

The Beacon Bursary fund provides grants for UCL staff or research students with good ideas to improve public engagement at UCL.

Please see the centre’s website for more information: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/equianocentre/Events.html
