The Uncertainty of Identity: Linking Spatiotemporal Information between Virtual and Real Worlds
Paul Longley to lead three year project with James Cheshire and Muhammad Adnan
This is the title of a new interdisciplinary grant for Geography (UCL), Computer Science (Birmingham) and Engineering (City University London), to be run in partnership with experts in Visual Analytics at Purdue University in the United States.
Our goal is to link information about human characteristics gathered from real and virtual worlds to better understand the uncertainties inherent in establishing human identity, and to ascribe virtual traces of human activities to geographic locations. An inter-linked series of six work packages will seek to improve our ability to characterize individual identities, to develop profiles of individuals and groups that span the real and the virtual domains, and to document and manage the uncertainties inherent in these tasks.
The three year work programme will begin in October 2011. It will be led by Professor Paul Longley, supported at UCL by James Cheshire and Muhammad Adnan.
