Leads Plenary session on Geography and Humanities Interactions
On April 13 the Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers in Seattle featured a special plenary presentation by David Lowenthal entitled, From Scientism to Humanism: Geography and the Two Cultures. His presentation was part of a special track of sessions addressing interactions between geography and the humanities.
In the Conference announcement, David was decribed as a towering figure in geography who had influenced humanistic research on landscape tastes and perceptions, the relationships between history and cultural heritage, the history of geographic thought, and the conservation movement.
