Groundwater depletion and subsidence in Dhaka, Bangladesh

On October 16, Bangladesh’s leading newspaper published an extended article by UCL PhD candidate, Mohammad Shamsudduha, on the threat posed to Dhaka City by high rates of groundwater abstraction. He describes a critical situation, arguing for a public awareness campaign to improve conditions, and the need for private sector and government initiatives to build a sustainable water-supply system for the city.
