Beacon Bursary Award from UCL Public Engagement Unit

Community engagement through cinema soirées

Dr Federico Caprotti and Dr Pushpa Arabindoo have been awarded a Beacon Bursary from the UCL Public Engagement Unit for a project titled 'Community Engagement Through Cinema Soirees'.

The project will schedule film screenings amongst three significant London communities - Iranian, Iraqi and Chinese - using the occasion to host discussions about recent events in their homeland and how these impact on their presence in London. In an informal setting, the events will bring together three groups in partnership: UCL social science researchers, local authorities, and the communities. They will offer the community groups a more prominent voice through the use of films as a user-friendly public engagement tool.
