Professor Matthew Gandy delivered his Inaugural Lecture on 30 April to a packed audience of around 200 people. ‘Borrowed Light: A Journey through Weimar Berlin’ explored emerging cultures of nature in Berlin during the 1920s, with particular emphasis on the planning and architectural legacy of Martin Wagner and the cinematic representation of everyday life in the film ‘People on Sunday’ (Menschen am Sonntag) 1929.

Matthew was introduced by Hugh Clout (UCL), and Professor Stephen Daniels (University of Nottingham) proposed a vote of thanks.
