UCL undergraduate geographers in Tunisia

Ray Harris and Russell Hitchings, aided by Lauren Wagner as teaching assistant, led a third year undergraduate field course to Tunisia, 4 – 11 November 2007. The course was based in Sousse, the main city of the Tunisian Sahel, and undergraduates visited Kairouan, El Djem, Monastir and Sidi bou Ali. In addition, students collected field observations for their projects as far away as Sfax, Tunis and Mahdia. The main theme of the field course was Continuity and Change in the Tunisian Sahel, with sub-themes being urban form and function, Islam, security, rural development, gender and Tunisia’s relationship with the global economy
